Fate

3 & 4 July 2027

Strathfield Town Hall

Fate doesn’t knock politely in this concert, Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony is one of the most emotionally raw works in the repertoire: a battle between an individual soul and an overwhelming destiny. Before that storm breaks, we open with an original work by someone who knows this orchestra from the inside out. Matthew Chin has spent months observing SSO rehearsals to inform his composition practice, and last season he performed the piano part in our Shostakovich Fifth. Now we premiere his Waltz. Then the stage belongs to James Hillier, a familiar voice from our own flute section, stepping into the solo spotlight for Nielsen’s Flute Concerto — music that dances, dreams, and disappears like smoke. Home-grown talent, front and centre.

  • Tchaikovsky — Symphony No. 4
