Strathfield Symphony Orchestra’s next concert has something for everyone.
From Schubert’s best loved symphony, the Unfinished, Symphony to the stirring patriotism of Finlandia, with its solemn fanfares calling on the Finnish people to rise up against the Russian yoke, and the moving chorale which has in fact become a hymn and a national song of Finland. The rich textures of Brahms’ Variations on St Anthony Chorale and the cheeky good humour of the Overture to Mozart’s opera Cosi fan Tutte complete this great programme.
Our Chief Conductor, Sarah-Grace Williams, is leaving us at the end of this year, so this is one of the last opportunities to hear this outstanding young conductor with the Strathfield Symphony, which has gone from strength to strength under her direction in the past five years. She is now working regularly with the major state symphony orchestras, and will soon be heading to Europe where she will be assisting and observing major orchestras and conductors for 3 months. This includes an appointment at the Kiev National Opera House, Ukraine and time with the Berlin Philharmonic, London Philharmonic and New York Philharmonic
So come along and have some serious fun. Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon – whatever suits you best.
