Connie Liu, aged 17, began her music journey with piano at age of 4 and violin at age 7.
Currently attending Year 12 at Meriden School on a full music scholarship, Connie has
garnered recognition through her consistent success in competitions for both instruments,
securing numerous top prizes since the age of 6 in prestigious events such as the Sydney
Eisteddfod and St. George Eisteddfod.
Her musical journey took an extraordinary turn at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music
through the Rising Stars program on the Victor Cromack and Melba Harris Cromack
Memorial Scholarship, under the guidance of her exceptional violin teacher, Dr Evgeny
Sorkin. His profound influence extended far beyond the technical aspects of playing the
violin. With a nurturing and insightful approach, his unwavering belief in Connie’s potential
gave her the confidence to explore her own musical identity.
Connie has achieved notable success in major international and national music
competitions. At the KPO NSW Concerto Competition, she was the winner of multiple
sections in 2025, performing Mendelssohn’s Double Concerto for Violin and Piano with her
piano partner. She returns to the Solo section of KPO NSW Concerto Competition in 2026 as
one of only three Senior Division finalists selected from a field of more than 100 entrants,
performing Sibelius’s Violin Concerto.
She retained the First Prize in the Any Age Violin Solo category in both 2025 and 2026, and
also won First Prize in the Any Age String Sonata category in 2025 in Sydney Eisteddfod. In
early 2025, she won the Marcus Edwards Violin Prize with a performance of Khachaturian’s
Violin Concerto, and was also awarded the 2nd place of the Richard Pollett Award (Junior
Category, Under 18) at the 23rd Kendall National Violin Competition after successfully
advancing through all three rounds of competition.
In July 2026, she will attend Juilliard Summer Music in New York on scholarship, and in 2024,
She was also accepted into the prestigious Meadowmount School of Music in New York City
on scholarship, where she spent seven weeks immersed in intensive training under the
direction of Artistic Director Janet Sung. She also participated in masterclasses with world renowned violinists such as Emily Sun, Amalia Hall, Jiafeng Chen, Angelo Yu, Stefan Jackiw,
Paul Kantor, etc.
In addition to her individual successes, Connie is an accomplished chamber musician. Her
chamber group, The Astra Octet was a finalist in the 2024 Strike a Chord National
Competition, and she is a regular participant in both the Australian Chamber Orchestra
Academy and the Australian Youth Orchestra’s National Music Camp.
She aspires to further develop her technical proficiency and musical insight into the violin,
with the goal of establishing herself as a distinguished and highly promising violinist.
