2019 is Matthew Gately’s third year as Principal Trumpet for the Strathfield Symphony Orchestra. In 2018 Matthew completed his Master of Music Studies (Performance), at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. He has studied with great Australian trumpeters such as Leanne Sullivan, Daniel Mendelow and Paul Goodchild. Additionally he has received the prestigious FTCL and LTCL Diplomas, AMusA, and BMus. Over the past 20 years has established himself as a performer on trumpet and cornet with a focus on both Classical and 20th-century repertoires.
Matthew has been Principal Trumpet for the Macquarie Philharmonia since 2010. He is a qualified Conductor and Adjudicator, and was honoured in 2017 by the AMEB to be named in the top five of private brass teachers in the category ‘Preliminary to Grade 6’.
Matthew holds over 20 State and National solo awards and is currently MD for Arden Secondary College and Central West Brass. He has vast teaching experience and has performed with many orchestras, musicals and a rich variety of jazz and Latin bands.
