Saturday 28 March & 29 March 2026 at Strathfield Town Hall

Dvořák’s Symphony No.9 –From the New World. One of the most popular Symphonies of all time, persistently in the top 5 Symphonies in ABC Classic FM top 100. Paired with the urban classic – Bernstein’s West Side Story Symphonic Dances and Gershwin’s an American in Paris, experience the best of The New World without surrendering your social media passwords!

Program Highlights:

  • Gershwin– An American in Paris : A late subsitute to the program as we couldn’t source the music to the planned Marquez work. An American in Paris is a vivid orchestral tone poem that captures the sights, sounds, and energy of Paris through the eyes of a wide-eyed American visitor. Blending jazz rhythms with lush symphonic writing (and even taxi horns), it evokes both bustling city life and moments of homesick reflection.
  • Bernstein – West Side Story Symphonic Suite: captures the conflict and passion of the iconic musical. Fusing jazz, Latin rhythms, and classical theatricality, this suite transforms the raw energy of the 1950s New York streets—and the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks—into an explosive orchestral suite.
  • Dvořák – Symphony No.9 – From the New World : was written during his time in America. Inspired by African American spirituals and Native American melodies, it blends European symphonic structure with the spirit of American folk music, creating an epic work of hope and longing.
