Anneke Brahe

Anneke is a percussionist currently in her second year of undergraduate studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where she studies under the tutelage of Kevin Man. Her musical journey began with piano at age five, followed by drum kit and percussion. She has since developed a particular artistic focus on marimba. She commenced percussion studies in 2015 with Sandy Sin at Sydney Percussion Studio, where she now teaches both individual and ensemble lessons. From 2018-2023, she continued her formal percussion training with Joshua Hill at the Conservatorium High School.


Anneke has appeared multiple times as both a soloist and ensemble performer at major venues including the Sydney Opera House and Town Hall. Her performance of Emmanuel Séjourné’s Concerto for Marimba and Strings won her the Year 12 Concerto Competition, and she was recognised with ENCORE nominations for both Music 2 and Music Extension. Her competitive achievements span national and international stages, including prize-winning performances at the Ryde, Sydney, and Australian Percussion Eisteddfods, as well as Marimbafest and international competitions.


Anneke has participated in masterclasses with a number of internationally acclaimed percussionists, including Matthew Lau, Kana Omori, Machi Ishida, Adam Tan, Ivan Trevino, and members of the Ju Percussion Group, Han-Yen Kao and Han Chih Tai. In 2024, she performed with Synergy Percussion and Swiss percussionist Fritz Hauser. She has recently been selected to attend the 17th International Keiko Abe Marimba Academy—one of only 30 participants worldwide—after auditioning with Keiko Abe’s Prism Rhapsody. As part of the program, she will study with Keiko Abe, Pius Cheung, and Tomoko Nakamura, culminating in a concert at the Toho Gakuen School of Music, where she will perform Keiko Abe’s Marimba d’amore.


In this performance, Anneke presents Chin Cheng Lin’s Marimba Concerto No. 1, a dynamic work that explores the expressive range and technical versatility of the marimba. The concerto blends lyrical melodies with driving rhythmic passages, drawing on influences from both Western classical tradition and Taiwanese musical elements. Anneke’s interpretation reflects her focus on contemporary marimba repertoire and her interest in works that challenge and expand both the technical vocabulary and expressive possibilities of the instrument.
